Grantee Profile

TU Dance

The Twin Cities is blessed with a vibrant dance scene, populated with talented dancers, choreographers, and companies. TU Dance, the joint creation of artistic directors, dancers, and life partners Uri Sands and Toni Pierce-Sands, is one of the bright stars in the local dance firmament.

Exploring themes as varied as South Africa's heroic struggle to the tone of a Minnesota lake, TU Dance attempts to reach across dance styles. Alongside their passion for diversity, the pair are committed to introducing new, aspiring artists to the Twin Cities scene. TU Dance's work features a company of guest artists from an array of dance backgrounds encompassing modern, ballet and traditional forms.

Even though both are in high demand as choreographers and guest artistic directors—they could easily be jumping from one project to the next around the country—they have chosen to put down roots in Minnesota and grow something deeper and more meaningful.

McKnight is pleased to be supporting the careers of artists who do precisely that.
