Minnesota Initiative Foundations

For over 20 years, Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation (SMIF) has been a catalyst for economic growth within 20 southern Minnesota counties. Working with local partners, the foundation is helping to create a prosperous region with vibrant communities, innovative businesses, and a skilled and valued workforce.

SMIF's key interests emphasize and support early childhood programs, workforce development, and innovative businesses, with a focus on emerging bioscience and renewable energy. Grants, loans, and technical assistance resources all apply an asset-based collaborative approach.

Programming and projects to advance these interests include incentive grants, town meeting initiative partnerships, the High Potential Business Program, the Early Childhood Initiative, a revolving loan fund, and a small enterprise loan fund.
