Women's Economic Groups Coordinating Council

A Nutty Idea Sticks

WEGCC's goal is to improve the social and economic status of Tanzanian women. To that end, it provides group support, information sharing, microfinancing opportunities, and skills training. Its emphasis dovetails well with The McKnight Foundation's commitment to enhancing women's economic opportunities. So today, we're helping to fund a project that teaches peanut butter processing skills to the women of Arusha. Once the peanut crush is under way, these women will be able to sell their affordable, nutritious product at a profit—helping themselves financially while feeding their families and communities.
