The Central Minnesota Arts Board has served Region 7W since 1979 as a nonprofitarts organization. It is one of eleven Regional Arts Councils designated by the Minnesota State Arts Board. The CMAB serves the four-county area of Benton, Sherburne, Stearns, and Wright counties. The McKnight Foundation helps fund the state's 11 regional arts councils which were established by the Minnesota Legislature in 1977 to encourage local art and cultural activity throughout the state. Since 2010, the RACs have directed all McKnight funding to support individual artists. For the latest information, visit the RAC in your area.

With funding from McKnight, in 2011 the Central Minnesota Arts Board awarded Dan Mondloch of Stearns County an Artist Career Development Scholarship to attend a professional workshop to advance his skills as an artist. When asked if the award made an impact on his growth as an artist, Dan replied, “The impact is significant. Sometimes what you take away from workshops doesn’t surface in your work at the time you would like it to,but I had some valuable experiences and learned techniques and information that will serve me for the rest of my life.” Dan also stated that this was his first CMAB award after applying multiple times.

The CMAB’s mission is “To Promote and Enhance the Creation, Performance, and Appreciation of the Arts in Region 7W.”CMAB/McKnight Artist Career Development Scholarship grants are provided to promising artists through a competitive Program. The CMAB featured High School and Adult Artist Scholarship and Mentorship Award Recipients, including Mondloch, at the November 19 St. Cloud Art Crawl.
