News Release: Fathers to the Forefront

July 2007 - This McKnight-supported action plan aims to increase healthy father involvement with children, families, and communities.

This action plan seeks to engage all fathers—especially fathers who are facing multiple barriers—so that they may become healthy assets for the development of their children, their families, and their communities.

The authors aim to increase levels of healthy father involvement in Minnesota's urban, suburban, rural, and tribal communities by working in tandem with organizations that support healthy women and children.

Note: In June 2009, McKnight announced it will invest in a new early child development goal to increase the literacy rate of Twin Cities students by the end of third grade, narrowing the focus of currently funded strategies. As part of this process, the Foundation's board has decided to discontinue discrete grantmaking to support fatherhood development; a multiyear transition out of this funding area is under way.
