Education & Learning

Program Goal

To prepare Minnesota students to succeed in an increasingly global society by investing in educators, empowering families, and engaging youth.

Focus Areas

Education equity. McKnight advances equitable, sustainable systems change in education by:

    • Building pipelines of effective educators by supporting innovative efforts to prepare, recruit, and retain high-quality, diverse talent for Minnesota schools;
    • Empowering families as the most credible constituency for education systems change by supporting them in advocating for improved school, district, and state policies and practices.
    Youthprise. McKnight supports innovative approaches to youth engagement, leadership, and learning beyond the classroom exclusively through our funding for Youthprise, an intermediary organization founded in 2011.

    McKnight’s education equity focus area is a new one, first announced in June 2017. As the program develops, we will update our website with more information about our approach and funding guidelines. In the meantime, contact program staff directly with questions about funding opportunities.

    For information about McKnight’s prior work in early literacy, The Pathway Schools Initiative, check out our learning and evaluation resources here.

    McKnight supports innovation, leadership and learning beyond the classroom exclusively through our grant to Youthprise. The Foundation no longer accepts requests for funding in our former out-of-school time funding areas. For information about funding, please visit Youthprise.
