McKnight Statement on MPCA’s Climate Action Framework

Following the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency’s release of the Climate Action Framework, Sarah Christiansen, Midwest Climate & Energy Program Director at the McKnight Foundation, issued the following statement:

“The climate clock is ticking, and we have no time to waste. From wildfires and droughts to tornados in December, Minnesotans are seeing first-hand the impacts of the climate crisis. Our state is currently not on track to meet our climate goals. This is our moment to be bold, be persistent, and accelerate the transition to an equitable clean energy economy.”

“We are encouraged by the climate action framework put forth by Governor Walz’s Administration. The climate crisis requires that we rapidly phase down the use of fossil fuels across our economy, electrify our buildings and transportation, and adapt our working lands and forests to absorb carbon and build resilience.

“The framework acknowledges the need for bold, comprehensive action at the scale and speed demanded by the climate crisis. We encourage all Minnesotans to make their voices heard, submit a public comment, and help shape a plan that will position Minnesota to be a leader in climate solutions.”
