Proposal to help break down local regulatory barriers winner of Minnesota Challenge to Lower Cost of Affordable Housing. (From The Horizon, Enterprise Community's affordable housing blog)

In an effort to address the simultaneous challenges of declining resources and a growing need for affordable housing, Enterprise and the ULI Terwilliger Center for Housing released Bending the Cost Curve: Solutions to Expand the Supply of Affordable Rentals last January. Throughout the research process, we wanted to ensure that the report would have a practical impact and not just “sit on a shelf.” Fortunately, while we were putting the finishing touches on the report, the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency (Minnesota Housing) and the McKnight Foundation were exploring their own ways to improve cost-effectiveness in the affordable housing delivery system and create homes for more families in need. With these shared goals in mind, our respective organizations decided to work together to support innovation in the state of Minnesota.

The result of this collaboration has been the MN Challenge to Lower the Cost of Affordable Housing, an idea competition co-sponsored by Minnesota Housing, the McKnight Foundation, Urban Land Institute of Minnesota (ULI-MN)/ Regional Council of Mayors (RCM), and Enterprise...
