Our Voice: Open letter to McKnight's arts grantseekers
August 30, 2012 - A completed Cultural Data Project profile now required for all arts proposals.
Dear Arts colleagues:
Earlier this year, you received a message from us (and perhaps from other grantmakers) encouraging your organization to get an early start with the Minnesota Cultural Data Project, an online data collection and reporting tool. At the same time, we notified you of McKnight’s intent to make participation in CDP a requirement of our application process by the end of 2012.
As planned, a completed Cultural Data Project profile is now required for all full proposals to The McKnight Foundation’s Arts program. You are not required to complete a CDP profile for an initial inquiry; however, if McKnight invites you to submit a full proposal, you will need to include financial and programmatic reports generated through CDP with your application.
A full proposal is typically due three weeks after the invitation to submit it — but if you plan to submit an application to McKnight at any point in the future, we encourage you to create your CDP profile as soon as possible and begin taking advantage of the reports and analysis it offers. CDP was built to help arts and cultural organizations measure, track, and understand financial and program data. It also provides researchers and advocates with accurate, comprehensive data, and helps grantmakers better understand our funding impact.
All the information you need to get started is at www.mnculturaldata.org. There are online training and resource tools, as well as live help available via phone. Please feel free to contact us with any questions about McKnight’s process.
