Debby Landesman has served on McKnight’s board of directors since 2011, becoming board chair in 2018. She has extensive experience in philanthropy and the nonprofit sector, having owned and operated a philanthropic consulting service which worked with a wide range of corporate and private foundation clients. She has served as executive director of the Levi Strauss Foundation and began her career as a senior program officer at The Kresge Foundation.
Landesman earned a bachelor’s from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s in engineering from Washington University in St. Louis. She received a three-year fellowship through the W.K. Kellogg Leadership Program while at The Kresge Foundation.
Landesman is on the board of the Storm King Art Center and is a trustee emeritus of the Public Theater. She is also a cofounder of Curtains Up!, an initiative that provides free theater tickets for recent immigrants to the New York area. Landesman was a founding board member of Partnership for a Healthier America, a nonprofit which worked closely with First Lady Michelle Obama’s White House office to fight childhood obesity.
