Juxtaposition Arts Capital Campaign Gets Underway

Juxtaposition Arts (JXTA) has launched the largest initiative in its history, a $14 million capital campaign to build a state-of-the-art facility at its current location in North Minneapolis. McKnight made a $1.3 million lead gift because we believe in JXTA’s mission and see the value of this youth-focused arts organization.

“We hope that others will see the potential that we see in Juxtaposition Arts. This capital campaign is an opportunity to really show what a well-resourced, arts-driven, community-rooted social enterprise can do to benefit the community and the artists that are working within it,” says McKnight president Kate Wolford.

JXTA is raising money to build a new facility, but the goals of this project go well beyond constructing a new building. The planned structure on the corner of Emerson and Broadway will house new and expanded programs, employ new and seasoned artists and designers, and ensure that young people have access to the arts for generations to come.

In addition to continuing JXTA’s place-making mission, the campaign reinforces the organization’s long-standing commitment to its neighborhood and the equitable development of North Minneapolis and the West Broadway commercial corridor. In doing so, the project will help build the cultural, financial, and social capital of North Minneapolis.

The $14 million will pay for the demolition of existing buildings (already begun) and the construction of a new building, the purchase of equipment and furnishings, programmatic expansion, and a reserve fund. This four-year campaign will conclude on May 31, 2022.
