2026 McKnight Scholar Awards

McKnight Foundation Supports Utility Bill Relief for Families Recovering from Operation Metro Surge

When utility bills go unpaid, families can lose more than service—they can lose food, medicine, safety, and the stability they need to recover. To help meet this urgent need, the McKnight Foundation has awarded a $300,000 grant to the Citizens Utility Board of Minnesota (CUB) in support of its Lights On, Homes Warm utility bill relief fund, which provides direct assistance to households struggling to pay electricity and natural gas bills.

Across Bolivia, Peru, and Ecuador, many farmers are advancing agroecological practices that protect biodiversity, nourish communities, and care for the land. Yet their stories often remain close to home.
