Teilnahmeberechtigung für die Runde 2027
A candidate for a McKnight Neurobiology of Brain Disorders Award must work as an independent investigator at a not-for-profit research institution in the United States, must have held a tenured or tenure-track faculty position for at least three years at the time of application (no later than September 2023), and must wait at least one year before reapplying after two unsuccessful consecutive applications.
Inhaber anderer Titel wie Forschungsprofessor, Adjunct Professor, Professor Research Track, Gastprofessor oder Dozent sind nicht teilnahmeberechtigt. Führt die Gastinstitution keine Professorentitel, muss ein Schreiben eines leitenden Beamten (z. B. Dekan oder Forschungsdirektor) bestätigen, dass der Antragsteller über eigene institutionelle Ressourcen, Laborräume und/oder Einrichtungen verfügt.
Ein Kandidat kann sich nicht im selben Förderzyklus sowohl für Scholar Awards als auch für Neurobiology of Brain Disorders Awards bewerben. Frühere McKnight-Preisträger sind antragsberechtigt, sofern sie nicht bereits mit dem gleichen Preis ausgezeichnet wurden. Beispiel: Ein Scholar-Preisträger kann sich später für einen NBD-Preis bewerben, sobald die Scholar-Award-Förderung abgeschlossen ist.
Wenn Ihr Vorschlag mehr als einen Hauptprüfer hat, müssen alle Co-Hauptprüfer diese Voraussetzungen erfüllen.
Es gibt keine Begrenzung für die Anzahl der Bewerbungen, die wir von derselben Institution in derselben Finanzierungsrunde erhalten können. Und obwohl wir nach institutioneller Vielfalt streben, können mehrere NBD-Preisträger derselben Institution im selben Förderzeitraum ausgezeichnet werden.
Anwendung
The application process is completely online, and the portal will open for submission by early August 2026. Important note: We HIGHLY suggest you start an application draft in our Fluxx portal at least a few weeks prior to the deadline, as it can take 1-3 days for us to approve your user registration in our system before you can add your application materials.
Within our portal you will need to provide the following information:

d) Inwiefern ist die vorgeschlagene Forschung auf diesem Gebiet neuartig oder bahnbrechend?
e) Wie fördern Sie eine Laborumgebung, in der sich alle Mitglieder wertgeschätzt und unterstützt fühlen? (nicht mehr als eine Seite)
f) Wie gehen Sie mit einem Umweltbeitrag zu Hirnerkrankungen um (falls zutreffend)?
Formatierungsanforderungen:

- Maximal 5 Seiten, nummeriert, einzeilig mit 2,5 cm breiten Rändern
- 12-Punkt-Arial-Schriftart
- Abbildungen/Tabellen innerhalb der 5-Seiten-Grenze (Text in Abbildungen kann kleiner als Schriftgröße 12 sein, solange er gut lesbar ist)
- Keine Anhänge
- Die Bibliographie muss nicht in die 5-Seiten-Grenze einbezogen werden
- Your proposal should not include any cover page, although you should include your name and proposal title on the first page.
- Budget. Please include a budget of $100,000 for each year of the award, i.e. July 1, 2027 – June 30, 2028; July 1, 2028 – June 30, 2029; and July 1, 2029 – June 30, 2030. Indicate any major categories (salaries, benefits, supplies, travel, tuition, etc) including indirect costs of up to 10 percent of the total award, meaning indirect costs should not exceed $30,000 over the entire award term for all recipients including any subrecipients. The budget should be calculated as $90,000 direct costs + $10,000 indirect costs = $100,000 total costs per year, treating IDC as 10% of the total annual award. Funds may be used toward a variety of research activities, but not more than 10% of the total award may be used for the salary(ies) and fringe costs of any principal or co-principal investigators on the grant who are the named award recipients. The rationale for these limitations is for award funds to go as much as possible to new science rather than institutional offset. The 10% indirect cost allowance and the principal investigator(s) salary/fringe allowance are two separate 10% allowances, not one shared allowance. Funds may be used without restriction for salary/tuition of trainees or other staff supporting the research. Please limit any kind of miscellaneous category to no more than 15% of the budget and break down any large categories, i.e. do not simply list $50,000 for supplies.

You do not need to list proposals currently under consideration that have not yet been awarded. Follow NIH guidelines for external funding. But different from NIH, no signature is required. Please provide the funding source (grant name, agency, grant number, etc) with the annual direct funding amount in $ with the starting and ending dates.

Auswahlverfahren
EIN Überprüfungsausschuss will evaluate the proposals and later invite the top 8-10 applications to interview with the review committee, likely in April 2027.
Nach den Interviews empfiehlt das Komitee dem Vorstand des Stiftungsfonds bis zu vier Auszeichnungen. Der Vorstand trifft die endgültige Entscheidung.
The Endowment Fund will fund up to four awards, each providing $100,000 per year for three years. Awards will be announced in May 2027 and begin in July 2027.
