True Green Capital Fund III

In the photo above, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti celebrates a new solar array built by True Green Capital (“TGC”). This fund provides equity capital for building distributed energy infrastructure projects – power generated at the place where it’s used rather than drawn from the conventional grid. TGC focuses on commercial and industrial solar projects and its investments may also include battery and other synergistic technologies.

Investment

$7.5 million; originated in 2017

Rationale

TGC’s most recent $350 million fund builds and operates projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Their investments help industry participants save money on electricity, thus creating new business support for renewables. The fund’s impacts map directly onto McKnight’s Midwest Climate & Energy program goals to decarbonize the power sector.

Returns

No financial returns to report; fund is in capital deployment stage.
