Midwest Climate & Energy

An Announcement about the Program:

In September 2019, McKnight announced an expansion of the program and this new goal: Take bold action on the climate crisis by dramatically cutting carbon pollution in the Midwest by 2030. McKnight will announce the revised program guidelines in fall 2020.

Until the new guidelines roll out, we continue grantmaking under our current guidelines. A reminder that we use a closed application process.

Please note: Due to the impact of the coronavirus, McKnight has implemented an automatic three-month extension on all scheduled grant reports. In addition, during this unprecedented situation, grantees can speak to their program contact to request other potential adjustments to their grant agreements, such as the grant purpose or time frame.

Program Goal: Foster and support climate and energy leadership in the Midwest, making the region a model for the world by reducing energy-related greenhouse gas emissions.

The Midwest Climate & Energy program envisions a thriving, carbon-neutral midwestern economy by transforming the energy system.

McKnight’s work engages the region’s public and private leaders, decisionmakers, and residents in building low-carbon communities and economies that are vibrant, equitable, and resilient. We pursue these goals through grants, investments, convenings, and community engagement.

Please note: The program uses a closed application process. Proposals for funding are accepted only from organizations that are invited to apply.
