Marcq Sung joined McKnight on January 24, 2022 as a senior program officer with the Vibrant & Equitable Communities program. In this role, he oversees and develops innovative grant portfolios to build a vibrant and equitable future for all Minnesotans with shared power, prosperity, and participation.

Marcq has dedicated his career to working with communities for change. Prior to McKnight, he served as director of program strategy and development for the Community Reinvestment Fund, USA. He created and implemented programs to deploy loan and grant funding to underserved communities throughout the U.S. From 2015 to 2019, he worked with the City of Saint Paul in the Planning & Economic Development Department as a director of business development, highlighting cultural business corridors, and as a project manager, helping launch Full Stack Saint Paul, a public-private collaboration to support tech focused on underserved communities. He has also served as a financial advisor for RBC Wealth Management with an emphasis on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing, and a strategic initiatives analyst to benchmark and devise strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for Three Rivers Park District in Plymouth, Minnesota.

Marcq attended graduate school for journalism and mass communication at the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities and holds a master’s in business administration with an emphasis on sustainability from Presidio Gradate School. He holds two bachelor’s degrees from St. John’s University in management and communications studies. He is certified as an economic development finance professional and a sustainability reporter. Additionally, he is a board member of the Coalition of Asian American Leaders, serves on Padilla’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Collective, and is on the Knight Foundation’s community investment advisory committee.

Born in Seoul and raised in Los Angeles, Marcq now lives in Minneapolis with his wife and son. He enjoys long hikes along the Mississippi River in three out of the four seasons.
