Karyn Sciortino Johnson is the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) manager at the McKnight Foundation. Karyn is responsible for designing and managing enterprise level DEI strategies and initiatives to support the Foundation’s goals and values, and ensuring integration and alignment across the Foundation. Prior to her role in DEI, she coordinated grantmaking programs in Southeast Asia, East Africa, and the Twin Cities, providing opportunities for people and communities to have access to the resources they need to thrive. Karyn is also an intercultural competence coach and organizational development consultant, working in the philanthropic, faith-based, and nonprofit sectors.

As a transnational adoptee of color, she has been surfing between cultures and identity her entire life and loves working with those who are committed to living out their mission and values. She is deeply passionate about creating equitable and inclusive environments and attending to both individual and communal formation.

Karyn has a master of divinity from Bethel Seminary and a bachelor’s in psychology from the University of Minnesota. Her other studies include advanced diversity and inclusion at the ILR School of Cornell University, organizational development at the University of Minnesota, and nonprofit management at University of St. Thomas. Karyn is also a qualified administrator for the Intercultural Development Inventory. She currently serves on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Taskforce for the City of Minnetonka and the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Council of Churches. Karyn was born in Seoul, Korea, grew up in southern California, and now resides in Minnesota with her family.
